WWE NXT is a product of WWE's American professional promotion, launched on February 23, 2010. In its first two years, NXT was a reality-based television show in which rookies competed to star in the WWE. NXT was renamed in 2012 and replaced the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) as the WWE (development area) farm program for their larger list (Raw and SmackDown). However, over time the pundits and fans began to view it as its unique organization.

Originally hosting its shows mainly in the Orlando, Florida area, NXT has expanded its reach over time, as it has started touring nationally and internationally, acclaimed for its high quality wrestling [and attractive news stories. NXT status was raised when its popular TV series moved to the USA cable network in September 2019, and where it was included in that year's Survivor Series event.

WWE now promotes NXT as its third major brand, but some independent journalists still view and view NXT as a development with Raw and SmackDown as "a top priority."
